Chocolate Covered Pretzels

In keeping with the chocolate theme for this month I made chocolate covered pretzels.  In my opinion the perfect snack is both salty and sweet. This snack is super easy to make and my two little assistants really enjoyed sprinkling the toppings and drizzling the chocolate.

I don’t really have a lot of fancy baking stuff on hand so I just pour the melted chocolate into a sandwich bag and snip off a corner and use it as a fancy piping bag that I don’t need to wash when I’m done.  I love things that are easy and don’t require much clean up.

We topped our pretzels with dried strawberries and heart-shaped sprinkles since valentines day apparently last all month long in our house! You can use whatever toppings you like try coconut, dried fruits, white chocolate, graham crackers your options are endless. Hope you enjoy eating and making them as much as we did!

2 cups of pretzels
1/2 cup of melted chocolate chips
1/4 cup of crushed dried strawberries
1/4 cup of sprinkles

1. Melt chocolate chips in microwave in 30 second intervals until completed melted.  Pour melted chocolate in sandwich bag and cut a small hole in the corner with scissors so you can drizzle the melted chocolate.
2. Lay pretzels over a baking sheet then drizzle with melted chocolate and sprinkle dried strawberries or sprinkles on top.
3. Place tray of pretzels in refrigerate for 15 minutes until chocolate cools.
* Makes approximately 30 pretzels store in an airtight container.

  1. When I do covered pretzels I melt the candy coating (I like to use almond bark) in a sauce pan and then cut a corner off of the pretzel bag to let the excess salt out and dump the pretzels straight into the sauce pan and stir carefully to not break the pretzels until they are completely coated and then spread out on either foil or pans to cool. This makes a lighter coating than dipping them and it less sweet (ie fewer calories!) and the assistants can add their extras while they are still wet.
