Peanut Butter Graham Cracker Balls
Over Memorial Day weekend a couple weeks ago at my father’s house, I needed to make a quick, yummy and easy dessert for the entire family to enjoy. Well, I didn’t need to make one but I wanted to, and believe me, my family wanted me to as well.
We are a big peanut butter and chocolate family so I thought I would whip up a quick batch of peanut butter balls to compliment the Raspberry Magic Balls that I already had made. I’m not a one dessert-making gal much to my sister’s chagrin. I like everyone to have a choice. 🙂 So, I decided to make the peanut butter balls but quickly realized we were out of powdered sugar. That is an integral ingredient in those balls. Not to worry because the internet was to the rescue and I found a great recipe that used crushed graham crackers (which I had!) instead. I was willing to give it a try and I’m so glad I did. They were delicious! My family loved them.
Peanut Butter Graham Cracker Balls
Makes: 20-24 balls
1 cup peanut butter (I used crunchy)
1 1/2 cups graham crackers crumbs
¾ cup mini chocolate chips or Heath bits
1 – 1 ¼ cup chocolate (I used semi-sweet chocolate)
1. Take your graham crackers and blend to crumbs in a food processor until you get 1 ½ cups. Add graham crackers crumbs to the 1 cup of peanut butter. Mix it up good. You want the mixture to be dry enough to be able to form balls. Add a little bit more peanut butter or cracker crumbs to achieve this consistency if need be.
2. Form 24 even sized balls with your hands and place on a wax paper covered plate, cutting board or baking sheet. Freeze for 30-60 minutes.
3. Melt the chocolate in the microwave until just melted (do not overcook!) or use a double boiler and stir chocolate until melted. Placed mini chips or crushed Heath bits in a small bowl. Note: You can use whatever topping that you would like including nuts, crushed Oreo…etc.
4. Using a toothpick or fork dip the peanut butter balls in the melted chocolate, one at a time, and then toss in the topping until covered. Refrigerate or freeze until firm.
5. That’s it. Enjoy!

dana, try a soy butter instead. In my grocery, it’s located right next to all the rest of the nut butters.

Try sunbutter! It is made from sunflower seeds so anyone with a nut allergy can still eat it!
How about cream cheese and sugar instead of peanut butter?

So, Im making these right now, and they are delicious, but I thought Id give a few tips. First of all, I made a double batch, thinking there wouldn’t be enough, but they are very rich. One or two will me good per person. Just a couple things to keep in mind
– I hand-crushed my graham crackers, because my sis doesn’t have a food processor, and i thought I did a pretty good job. However, my balls are much more crunchy (and I used creamy peanut butter) than the picture shows. Still, delicious, though!
-Make sure you buy extra toppings, I had to run out to the store and get more chocolate for dipping, and more choc chips to roll them in.
-I used crushed heath bars on half, and mini choc chips on some, until I ran out. The picture shown uses mini choc chips, and I think the mini ones are the better than the large. When I ran out to get more choc chips, they only had the big ones, and I can tell its going to be too much.
-Make sure when you are making the balls, they aren’t very large. Once you roll them in the chocolate, and the toppings, they get a lot bigger.
– I bought the dipping chocolate that they sell at the store, and I think it work better than just melted chocolate (i used it when I ran out), because its a little thinner, and it covers easier.
-When I tried to use a fork to dip my balls in the chocolate, the balls fell apart (this may be due to my grainer consistency) but i just ended up rolling them around in the chocolate (which may have contributed to running out of chocolate).
I love them, and I have a feeling they are going to get rave reviews, but I thought the tips might help some of you!

I did not have any luck with these, after I froze the balls i used a toothpick to pick them up and they crumbled I froze them again and picked them up with my hands to dip them in the choc which did not cover well, it jsut sort of blobbed on the ball. I put them in the fridge again but thought the taste wasn’t particularly remarkable. too much effort for the end product

what are graham crackers? They look awesome but not sure what to substitute (or where to find the graham bickies)’ thanks.
If you use bakers chocolate instead of melted chocolate chips the chocolate will stay hard after it has set up in the freezer. You won’t have to store them in the fridge once they set.
I totally agree and I don’t know why I didn’t think of that when I made them. They are just buckeyes with graham crackers in them. You use baking chocolate for buckeyes.

Sure! You just have to make sure you crush the graham crackers enough by hand.
Thank you for this recipe. I tried making these before but I added some roasted oats. I dont have a food processor but our supermarkets sell crushed graham biscuits. They come in handy packs 🙂 I have been looking for a good base for my cake pops, and I found this site! Thank you again 🙂
Avoid any problems with graham crackers not crushing well…. Use a bag of graham cracker crumbs. As well, if you think they are crumbling…. You need more peanut butter. If you think they are too sticky… You need more crumbs.

The one thing that is missing is powder sugar in the mixture, very bland. I used natural peanut butter and it was not sweet enough, according to my family. Now I have 28 balls and no one will eat them :S.
I just made these and they are fantastic.
I used significantly less of the graham cracker crumbs than it calls for, about half a cup, I don’t know if that is because I used organic peanut butter, also I double dipped mine for a bit more chocolate flavor and rolled them in Heath bits. I am definitely going to make them again for Christmas!
hi! looks like this recipe is great for this season gift giving, but i wanna ask if it melts quickly once it’s out from the fridge? how long does it take to melt? cause i wanna give this as a gift.
OMG! I just made these and they are awesome! I did not freeze them long enough so they kind of exploded but they still taste amazing. Great alternative to buckeyes because they are not as sweet.

I didn’t have graham crackers so I used pretzels. I dipped some in milk chocolate and some in dark. Then topped with chocolate chips and sprinkles. Soo yummy!!! Thank you for the great ideas!
Also, a tip for those who said their chocolate was too clumpy. Add a tbs of vegetable shortening to it while melting. I do this for my cake pops, and chocolate covered strawberries. Helps it smooth out and it is still amazing!
You could probably use Almond butter as a substitute for peanut butter. But these look awesome! I am going to make these as a treat for my theater class
