Bulk Meats with Zaycon Foods

Calling all homemakers!

Scratch that, calling anyone and everyone who eats meat and wants to save money. That’s you? Me too! Read on …

As a relatively new mom I have quite a bit to learn about this whole homemaking gig. Because of this, I’ve made it a priority to surround myself with moms in various stages of motherhood so I can glean from their brilliance. Daily, I find myself having “ah ha” moments over simple things my mom friends do to make their lives more seamless.

A few months ago my Facebook started bursting with posts like, “Zaycon is coming soon!” and “I can’t wait for my Zaycon chicken!” I hopped over to the Zaycon website and knew immediately that my mom friends had led me to a gem.

Zaycon Foods is a bulk meat and fruit service. They were founded in 2009 with the purpose of bringing fresh meat and other products direct to consumers at wholesale prices. Zaycon hosts drop offs around the country for various products on specific dates which helps families interested in buying bulk save big.

Zaycon has been coined as the drive-thru meat market. And after my recent chicken pick up, I couldn’t agree more.

Here’s how it works …

  • Register at Zaycon Foods to create a customer profile
  • View upcoming events based on your location – Zaycon cycles through chicken, turkey, pork (that includes BACON!), beef, fish (salmon and cod), and various fruits
  • Select your event and place your order
  • On the event date you’ll drive to the designated location at the hour long pick-up window
  • You’ll get in line (in your vehicle), pull up to the Zaycon truck, and the Zaycon staff with swap your receipt for your case (or cases) of meat

Orders are sold by the case so be ready to invest in a bulk purchase. For example, 40 pounds of chicken (the smallest portion) ran me $67.60. That’s just $1.69 per pound for boneless, skinless chicken breast! At this price, I opted to get 2 cases and if my math is correct, this should last my family for the whole year.

Once I arrived home from pick-up I spent about an hour re-packaging my 2 cases of chicken breast. This included cutting the breasts in half, trimming excess fat (there wasn’t much), and packaging the chicken breasts into quart size freezer bags. A small price to pay for such great savings.

Above are my 2 cases of chicken and a laundry basket of individual servings of chicken breast ready for the deep freezer.

Zaycon Foods has officially been welcomed into my arsenal of motherhood musts! I mean, how could they not be? The savings is spectacular and the process of picking up was easier than grocery shopping! Sounds like a win-win to me!

  1. Hi Hollie
My wife and I enjoy your blog.
We are thinking about ordering Zaycon Foods but I’m concerned
About the wait at the pickup location. Our schedule is tight when they are in town.
Any idea on how long we can expect to wait or approx. how many customers they get per even?
I may need to send someone else to help with the pickup.
    thanks
    Paul
